Drag Week is the event where quarter-mile racers with street-legal cars compete five days in a row at four different dragstrips, and must drive their race cars 1,000-plus miles from track to track on public roads without any assistance from support vehicles. The car with the lowest average elapsed time over the five days of racing is declared HOT ROD’s Fastest Street Car in America. There are currently eight different categories of cars in Drag Week competition with a total of 12 different classes. Following the 2011 Drag Week event, we created new rules for each class, considering lots of input from the participants. When the rules were finalized, we promised to leave them the same for three years, covering the 2012, 2013, and 2014 events. The exceptions were the Hot Rod and Gasser/AFX classes, which we reserved the right to update. We have previously posted that we’d change those classes a little for 2014, but have not done so.
