Officials at the New Heartland Park Topeka along with Motocross track designer and builder, Tracy Freeman are hosting a special Grand Opening Ride Day, Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the all-new motocross track located on the northwest corner of the facility.
The Grand Opening Ride Day hours will be from 9 AM to 3 PM with the gate opening at 8 AM for riders and their crews. The rider fee for this event will be $25 and includes complimentary crew passes. Spectator admission will be free for this special, Grand Opening event. The smaller pit bike track will also be open to all small motocross bikes throughout the day.
“We are very excited to be hosting this first open practice day here on the newest motocross track in the country,” says Jordan Donald, Operations Manager and Race Director for the new motocross venue at Heartland Park Topeka. “Ever since Tracy Freeman started working on the track back in mid-April, we’ve been bombarded with questions about the track and a schedule. This event is just the start and we hope that a good number of local and regional riders will be able join us.”
Concessions and restroom facilities will be available for riders, crew and spectators, however, with the track infrastructure still under construction, crew and spectators are asked to bring their own camp chairs and umbrellas to make their spectating more comfortable. Riders and spectators are asked to enter at Gate C off of Gary Ormsby Drive and will then be directed to the pit and parking areas just to the south of the motocross track.
“Motocross riders and the community in general have been very encouraging and supportive of our efforts to add yet another motorsports venue here at Heartland Park,” says Scott Gardner, president of the New Heartland Park Topeka. “Given the popularity of motocross and the spectator base it draws, we are looking forward to a whole new segment of motorsports participants and fans joining us here at the track and discovering all that Topeka has to offer.”
The motocross track was designed constructed by Tracy Freeman of MX343 LLC Track Building out of Osawatomie, KS. The outdoor-style MX track has everything needed to attract racers from all over the Midwest and expected to draw riders from all across North America to ride the fast and challenging layout.
Dirt work began on the motocross track on April 12, however, heavy and sustained rainfall in late April delayed completion of the course layout by more than two weeks. “It was quite the battle, but in the long run, it was best not to rush the construction so that we had a better track and surrounding areas once it was completed,” explains Freeman.
“The track itself is going to be a lot of fun, both for the riders and spectators. It’s designed for riders of all skill and experience levels and has a wide variety of obstacles like tabletops jumps, doubles, whoops, scrubs and much more,” adds Freeman.
The summer of 2016 schedule will be introductory and a full 2017 race schedule be planned for next year. Racers and fans are asked to watch the New Heartland Park Topeka’s website and Facebook page for more detailed information and schedules as they are developed.
